Love is Like Water

In the midst of a debate
On why does love equal pain
I finally decided to say
Love is not that way
Rather, love is like the cycle of water
It starts as the rain
Sometimes it comes without warning
Or sometimes there are signs along the way
But suddenly, it's pouring
And you're dancing, singing, and feeling
But just like the weather would have it
The rain stops and goes away
And you drop your heartbroken head
Only to find at your feet is now a lake
And you laugh and you dance
You jump and you swim
In this lake that was once the rain
But as the sun beats down
Your lake dries up
And in a panic, you look around
To see your rain and your lake
Are nowhere to be found
But if only you knew your water was now around you
Because it turns into the vapor that surrounds you
And if you give it some time
Then look to the sky
You'll see that your precious water that was once falling about and flooding the ground
Is now a big fluffy cloud
And you'll lay in its shade
Seeing it form into so many shapes
Until suddenly, this white fluffy thing
Turns a dark gray
And you are back to having rain
So, don't you see
Love never leaves
It just takes on new forms
With new purposes and new shapes
But always at its core
It's still the same thing
Because water is water
Whether as vapor or rain
Or a cloud or the lake
And so love is love
Whether from him, or a new one
Or from family thats blood
Or strangers that you choose
To be like family to you
Love, like water
Is always there
But you have to be open to all the ways
Shapes and forms love may take
I mean of course you would see love as pain
If you only thought that water came in the form of rain
And when you can't find the rain, the lake, the vapor or the cloud
Remember you are never without
Because I forgot to mention one other way
Water takes shape
In the form of you
If we are roughly fifty percent water
That means love can be above, next to, and all around us
But also
Love is in us
And from us
There is never a drought
When you start with loving yourself
